Jindao HPL FAQ
JINDAO Antistatic HPL

Jindao Antistatic HPL is high pressure laminate with a very tough surface, particularly suitable for raised access flooring systems. HPL has become the standard in equipment & computer room design because of its ease of maintenance and its unique ability to dissipate static electricity.

Jindao Antistatic HPL FAQ
What is an HPL laminate?
According to the European standard UNI EN 438, high pressure decorative laminates (HPL) are materials manufactured with layers of fibrous material (e.g. paper) impregnated with thermosetting resins, bonded by heat at a pressure not lower than 7 MPa, where one or both external surfaces are coloured or have decorative patterns. High pressure decorative laminates (HPL), as defined in the above mentioned standard, are made up of internal layers impregnated with phenolic and/or aminoplastic resins, and of one or more surface layers of aminoplastic resins (mainly melamine resins). << back to top

What are the main features of HPL laminates?
The main features are as follows:

  • High scratch resistance
  • High abrasion resistance
  • High impact resistance
  • Excellent moisture resistance
  • Good water resistance
  • Good vapour resistance
  • Excellent resistance to high temperatures
  • Good resistance to chemicals
  • Ease of cleaning
  • Good dimensional stability
  • Excellent reaction to fire with low fumes
  • Special antistatic properties << back to top

How do you clean HPL?
High pressure decorative surfaces must be treated with the same care given to other common furniture surfaces. It is good practice always to keep the surfaces clean and dry.
In case of neglect or tenacious dirt, it is generally possible to obtain good results in the cleaning of HPL surfaces by following the recommendations indicated in the table below. These instructions can be observed in most cases, however, they do not claim to solve any possible case that may emerge, because factors such as state of wear of the surface, type and quantity of deposits and the length of time these have remained on the surface, are essential in determining how easy it is to remove the stains. The following recommendations will be ineffective if the laminate has been considerably altered by chemical, physical or mechanical interventions. << back to top

How does HPL react to fire?
HPL laminates are rarely flammable and have "flame spreading" retardant properties, therefore allowing more time for evacuation procedures. << back to top

Are there any technical standards which specify characteristics and test methods for HPL laminates?
The reference standard for HPL laminates is UNI EN 438. << back to top

What precautions must be taken for the transport of laminates?
Storage and transport must be performed in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. No special precautions need be taken.
As to transport, HPL laminates are classified as non-dangerous material. No labelling is required.

  • During transport, flat and stable pallets must be used at all times, ensuring that the panels do not move.
  • During loading and unloading operations, care must be taken to prevent panels sliding over each other. They must be lifted by hand, or by a lifting device provided with a sucker.
  • Soiling, foreign bodies and sharp edges can damage the surfaces if the panels are allowed to rub together. << back to top
